§ 2-17. Constitute governing body; election and terms.

  • (a)

    The governing body of the city shall consist of a mayor and five (5) council members. The mayor shall be elected by the voters at large and each council member shall be elected by the voters of a single-member election district or ward.

    (b)

    The regular municipal elections shall be held on the second Tuesday in July, 1988, and quadriennially thereafter. Officers, elected at a regular municipal election shall commence their terms of office on the first Monday in October following their election, and shall serve for terms of four (4) years or until their successors are elected and qualified, or until such officer shall resign, die, move his residence outside of the district from which he was elected or otherwise be removed from office.

    (c)

    Regular municipal elections held in the city shall be conducted pursuant to the provisions of Title 11, Chapter 46 (§ 11-46-1 et seq.), of the Code of Alabama 1975.
